In addition to our current schedule we also recommend the following events:
Wintergrass, Tacoma WA, February
The Pacific Northwest's largest and most prestigious indoor bluegrass festival, Wintergrass is held at the downtown Tacoma Sheraton. Usually the last full weekend in February, the festival boasts several performance venues, free workshops, lots and lots of jamming, and big names in bluegrass. Always an exciting event! www.wintergrass.com
Saturday Night Bluegrass Thang, Spokane WA, April - September
Commonly referred to as "The Thang" by local bluegrassers, this event is sponsored by the Inland Northwest Bluegrass Association. For just $4.00 you get two full hours of music from several local bands, and some folks say the real fun starts after the show, when everyone gets together for eats and jamming at Godfather's Pizza over on Sullivan. The Thang is held once a month at Trent Elementary School in Spokane, Washington (at Pines and Trent). For more information, check out www.spokanebluegrass.org
Steve Kaufman Flatpik Workshop and Concert, Republic WA, May
An event in our hometown, this workshop is in its sixth year. Steve is a three-time national guitar picking champion and even more, he's got a knack for teaching. Hosted by Valerie Hester at the Prospector Inn, the workshop has room for twenty participants of all levels. Beginning on Friday evening, the workshop concludes on Saturday night with Steve in concert with local talents--definitely worth the trip to Republic. www.ferrycounty.com/music/
Bitteroot Bluegrass Festival, Hamilton MT, July
Usually held the second weekend of July, this festival boasts some of the best bluegrass bands in the nation along with wonderfully talented regional and local groups. Set against the beautiful Bitterroots and that great Montana sky, the festival runs Friday night through Sunday afternoon at the fairgrounds. This is a jammer's campout, so bring your instruments and plan to stay up late enough to wake the roosters. www.bluegrassfestival.org
Mountain Music Festival, Republic WA, August
This down-home ranch festival is hosted by the K-Diamond-K Guest Ranch on the first Saturday of August. Festival-goers see first hand some of the workings of ranch life. In fact, the chickens, donkeys, and cows can be heard joining in on the live performances, while the horses and an emu or two manage to stomp along in time. The festival is a scholarship fundraiser for kids who want to learn old-time acoustic music. www.ferrycounty.com/music/
Ferry County Fair, Republic WA, September
From bluegrass and blues, to country western and rock, to old-time fiddle and Irish dance, there's a sure-to-please gathering of regional musicians and singers performing at the Ferry County Fair on Labor Day weekend. Bring your lawn chair and a boot-scootin' attitude and join us for a full afternoon of outdoor music. And don't miss the barn dance on Friday and Saturday night. www.ferrycounty.com/fair
Moses Lake Bluegrass Festival, Moses Lake WA, September
Hundreds of bluegrass musicians and Oregon Trail enthusiasts attend the Moses Lake Bluegrass Festival and Dutch Oven Cook Off. When the music stops on stage, it keeps going out in the parking lots and camp sites. Held toward the middle of September at the Grant County fairgrounds, the weather is almost always just right--not too hot, not too cold. Talk about ending the festival season on a perfect note--let's go again! www.moseslakebluegrass.com
